A chip in your windshield doesn't have to mean rearranging your day. Mobile windshield repair brings the technician — and all the equipment — directly to wherever your car is parked. Here's what mobile service actually involves, when it works, and what to keep in mind before you book.

Mobile repair is exactly what it sounds like: instead of driving your vehicle to a shop, a technician drives to you. They arrive with a fully equipped kit — resin, UV lamp, bridge tool, cleaning supplies — and perform the repair on-site.

For chip repairs, the process is identical to what happens in a shop. The same resin, the same UV curing, the same result. The location changes; the quality doesn't.

Most chip repairs are well-suited for mobile service:

• Bullseye chips — clean, circular impacts smaller than a quarter
• Star breaks — multi-leg fractures under about 3 inches in diameter
• Combination breaks — chips with short cracks extending outward
• Short cracks — under 6 inches and away from the edges

What doesn't work for mobile repair:

• Full windshield replacement — removing and installing a windshield requires a controlled environment, proper curing time for the urethane adhesive, and in many cases ADAS recalibration equipment. This is a shop job.
• Edge cracks or long cracks — these require replacement, not repair
• Damage requiring ADAS recalibration — calibration requires a level surface, specific lighting, and a target board setup. It can be done on-site in some cases, but it's more reliably performed in a shop environment

Chip repair resin is sensitive to a few environmental factors. For the best result, mobile repairs work best when:

• The glass is in the shade or indirect light — direct Florida sun heats the glass and can cause the resin to cure too quickly before it fully penetrates the damage. We time the repair to avoid this.
• It's not raining — moisture in the chip is the enemy of a clean repair. If it's actively raining or the chip is wet, we'll reschedule rather than do a poor repair.
• The surface is reasonably level — the bridge tool that holds the resin in place needs the glass to be roughly horizontal or at a consistent angle. Steep driveways or uneven lots can make this harder.
• The temperature is reasonable — extreme heat (above 95°F on the glass surface) or cold affects resin flow. Florida summers mean we often schedule mobile repairs for morning slots when the glass hasn't been baking in the sun.

The same as an in-shop repair: 20–30 minutes for a single chip. Multiple chips add roughly 15–20 minutes each. There's no extra time for travel on your end — the technician handles that.

3. Go about your day — you don't need to be present for the repair itself in most cases
4. Get a text or call when it's done
